Waiting

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

When you’re travelling, you usually have a long wait ahead of you, either when you check in at the airport or the mind numbing hours  that you spend on a plane en route to your destination. Check in time for your flight is normally 3 hours prior to departure time and your actual flying time would vary, depending on your chosen destination. So, how do you fill the time? You could people watch at the airport, that’s always an interesting experience and follow that up by a bonding session, talking to the person next to you for the entire flight:) But seriously, you can read a book, watch the inflight movie, play games, learn a foreign language. To pass the time I listen to music. Do you have a MP3 player, ipod, ipad or laptop? You could create a playlist, entitled “surviving the flight”.  Here’s a sample of my playlist, in no particular order, but hopefully it should get you thinking about starting your own playlist.

Bruno Mars……Locked out of Paradise – Don’t know what it is about this song, but it’s just fun!!

Adele…………Skyfall

James Taylor……….Fire and Rain (classic)

Snow Patrol…………Run

B.O.B……………..So Good

Sean Paul……Got to luv u

Bob Marley…..Is this love  🙂

Linkin Park ….Rolling in the Deep. I know, 2 songs by Adele. Not really, you need to hear Chester’s remake, its Linkin Park like you’ve never heard them.

Coldplay…Fix you

Shakira ….Addicted to you

What’s going to be on your playlist?

Someday

When is your “someday” going to come around? What are you waiting on to make your dreams a reality? We always delay the things we want to do, by saying the magical words..someday! Sadly, that “someday” never comes, because there’s always something that happens to postpone your plans. You get ill, the kids need braces, you break up with someone, you don’t have the money right now, my personal favorite…I’m waiting to win the lotto and series of other excuses that cause you to say the magical words “someday”. Sometimes, what holds us back is the feeling that we have all the time in the world to accomplish all the things we want to do. Not to be harsh…you don’t..no one lives forever. And, knowing you’re not going to be here forever should prompt you to take action. Why would you limit your experiences to one place on the planet when you have 196 countries to explore and experience? Do you have kids? I highly recommend Disney World, great place for kids and adults alike. No kids? hmmm..then Miami it is!! Like adventure? What about Insanity – The Ride at the Stratosphere It’s in Las Vegas. Extending 64 feet over the north edge of the tower, Insanity-The Ride spins passengers at up to three Gs. And as the speed increases, up to 10 riders are pulled out in “escape proof” seats to an angle of 70 degrees, with nothing to look at but the Las Vegas Strip more than 900 feet below. I can’t wait to try it!! What do you think, is Insanity worth a Bucket List Notation?

Five Reasons Why You Should Travel

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.
-Mark Twain

Giving someone five good reasons why they should pack a suitcase and see the world is not hard, having the person follow your advice is the hard part.  Travelling to another destination is not cheap, when you add the cost of airfare, hotel accommodation, meals and spending money, it puts a dent in your wallet, that you’ll feel for awhile!!.  However, what you gain from the experience of travelling to a foreign country is priceless. Here are just five reasons I would recommend that anyone should travel, whether it be travelling by air or by boat 🙂

  1. Mark Twain said it best when he said “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness”, my interpretation of what he meant is simple, you spend your life in one place and you tend to believe that everyone shares your same views, customs and habits. Going to a new country changes this belief, as you expose yourself to another culture, you develop tolerance and understanding. You learn to respect someone else’s culture and also realize that everyone is not the same.
  2. You feel rejuvenated!! There is nothing like going on vacation to another country or place.  Leaving habit behind, you begin to feel relaxed.
  3. You make new friends or acquaintances. You meet new people when you go on your travels. Sometimes, these people become lifelong friends. In most cases, you’re able to say I know someone that lives in this country or I have a friend in that country.
  4. Food. Opening yourself up to trying new cuisine is the highlight of travelling.  Trying that countries national dish becomes a yummy moment…Of course…..if someone offers you mountain chicken…you politely refuse!!! You’ll thank me and Kermit the Frog will thank you!!
  5. Wonders of the world!! You’ll get to see and experience some of the wonders of the world. Pyramids of Giza, Machu Picchu, Taj Mahal, Stonehenge. As well you’ll learn about the mysteries and history of each new or recurrent place you visit.

Ask yourself, what are you waiting for to begin this fabulous journey of travelling!!!

Packing list – what to pack when travelling abroad?

The countdown to your vacation is on!! Wondering what to take with you? I’ve put together a mini packing list of really useful items that you need to pack for your trip.

  • Passport – valid 6 months after date of travel, (1 photocopy) and save a copy of your passport in your email so you can print it out if lost.
  • Ticket – or confirmation code for E-ticket
  • Visa – get it close to departure date to make sure it’s still valid
  • Suitcase/bag – with small combination lock
  • Clothing – depends entirely on where you go….always take a swimsuit
  • Drivers License or ID Card
  • Travel insurance – sometimes required for a visa
  • As well: Tell your bank or credit card company the destination so they don’t cancel credit purchases.
  • Tell them when you are back so they can cancel any mysterious credit purchases.
  • Camera – to capture the memories

Pleasure reading –I highly recommend the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy. You’ll thank me later 🙂
